AKC describes old english sheepdogs as "big, agile dogs who enjoy exploring and a good romp." They list their character traits to include "watchfulness, courage, kindliness, and intelligence. Being great with children, they make patient, protective playmates." We just love their snuggly hair and bear-like run.
Hillspelt.com describes poodles as "notorious for their intelligence and ease of training. They are lively, active, fun-loving dogs with a sense of the ridiculous." We have found them to be extremely patient, very cuddly, and all around a wonderful family dog.
Our favorite description of a bernese mountain dog is a dog who "get along with the entire family and are particularly gentle with children, but they will often become more attached to one lucky human. [They are] imposing but not threatening, and they maintain an aloof dignity with strangers."
We take a dual approach to breeding. Before picking a dog to be in our program, we spend countless hours scouring and researching to make sure they are the right fit both inside and out. We want them to be the right dog genetically, as well as their personality and health being just right. But once a pup is in our home, they are first and foremost treated as our beloved pets. They don't have a building out back where they spend hours and hours everyday and sleep in at night. They are with us. They warm my feet as I work on the computer and teach homeschool lessons. They stretch out in the middle of the kitchen floor as they watch us cook...hoping this batch is treats for them. They sleep beside our living room, and their nursery is right off the kitchen. (Pics of the new and improved nursery remodel coming soon to our Instagram...so exciting.) Once puppies are born, they are handled daily and given ENS following Puppy Culture curriculum. They play with our kids, are swooned over by friends and family that stop by, and spend their first formative months cared for as we would want any new addition to our family to be. We feel this approach makes the best possible furry friends.
