Not much, if any. Doodles are hypoallergenic because their shedding is very minimal. Just how much depends greatly on their coat. The curlier the coat, the less shedding. The more wavy the coat, the more likely to have some shedding. We choose to have our mama's already be doodles themselves. By our puppies being second or third generation doodles, they have more of the poodle curly coats that shed less.
Yes. Yes. Yes. But it is not as scary as it sounds. Grooming is incredibly important for their health, especially because of their lack of shedding. Just like we need our hair brushed, washed and cut, they do too. But it doesn't mean hours and hours and hundreds of dollars. We have found two big secrets in keeping them healthy and beautiful. First, keep a brush out where you can see it until you have found a good routine of brushing. Whether part of your morning routine or an evening cuddle time, when done regularly, brushing can be fast and enjoyable. Nails need to be cared for as well. You can choose from a clipper, grinder, or new 'scratch pads' are becoming more and more popular. Once again, if done regularly, it can be fast and a bonding moment. Second, find a groomer you can trust and work with them to get a good schedule established. You may be surprised on how doable it is. If you keep a shorter cut, they will only need a groom every 6-8 weeks. If you prefer a little more fluff, a little sooner, but when you work with a groomer they can help you decide.
Yep. And it can be really fun and enjoyable to learn. But it is a commitment. It is important to know that grooming involves more than just a bath and hair cut. If you want to take on the whole job, do your research. Many groomers have posted helpful videos on YouTube to see all the care that goes into their job. If you want to extend the time between professional grooming, a good pair of sheers and shampoo in addition to your brush and nail clippers will do the job. But we still suggest to find a groomer for a periodic check-up.
There are so many many choices! Check with your local vet and see what in-person classes are available in your area. We also love the Pupford App that has a free 30-day puppy training course. Whatever you choose, the more training, the better communication you can build with your pup. Plus, it is super fun to leave your serious life behind and spend some time in productive play with you furry friend.
